this is how i’m doing: in case you were wondering…

I had to go back and manually edit all of my posts because when I upgraded to the newest version of WordPress it added some funky characters to my posts.  I was a bit annoyed but it was fun reading posts from almost a year ago.  Two observations:

1 - God is Good

2 - I miss traveling

PS - as a result of my reformatting my posts, Bloglines and other RSS feeders might show that I have like 70 new posts… sorry

Typically anytime I see the words “discount” and “sushi” I run. When said discount sushi is served in a coffee shop, I run fast. Lucky for me a few of my co-workers some how convinced me to give it a try - I have found my new favorite restaurant.

Uncommon Ground Sushi Cafe is the Kordell Stewart of Sushi restaurants playing the roles of sushi cafe and coffee shop all under the same roof. Can sushi and coffee co-exist?  I can’t vouch for the java but the sushi is to die for. We haven’t even gotten to the best part; every day they have a special where something on the menu is HALF PRICE! And not the cheap stuff like an avocado roll - I enjoyed a $20.00 combo for a mere $10.00 +tax and tip.

Apparently this is also the Korean hang out of Denton; all the Asians in the place within ear shot of me (including the sushi chef and the waitresses) were speaking Korean; that’s a good sign

One of the fun parts of my job is that I get to teach academic success sessions at freshman orientation. I did one earlier today and now I’m EXHAUSTED! I swear, public speaking should be a sport or something. I have a higher level of respect for all teachers now; well the good ones anyway

Matt said it in one of his sermons but the same holds true for myself. I’ve been blessed with what teachers call “a voice that carries”. It’s really comical that I ended up majoring in what I did and doing what I do considering I’m such an introvert AND how much I hated any kind of public speaking. I was more of the “witty comment” kid in school - much of what I said was under my breath, or so I though.

So, today was my third “class” to teach this summer and now I’m having thoughts about teaching. I think I’d like to be a speech professor. *sigh* that would involve MORE school on TOP of the degree I won’t start until the fall, but I could technically have my Ph.D by the time I’m in my early 30’s which would give me DECADES of time to teach. I never wanted to teach before - in fact I really didn’t want to. But when I look some of my life goals - to motivate, inspire and positively affect the lives of the people I have influence over, teaching would certainly fit that. Next week I’ll want to be an auto-mechanic so we’ll see how all of this plays out. In case you were wondering I’m looking at the Ph.D program in Speech Comm at Texas A&M. I always wanted to be an Aggie

does your writing flow out of your title?

I’m doing a horrible job of balancing life at the moment. Too much emphasis on the things that, in the end don’t really matter and not enough on the things that do. I guess it’s good that I’m AWARE of this, it would be better if I were motivated enough to DO something about it.

I read the book of Esther last night - if you’re into irony and God’s sovereignty, I highly recommend this book.

Well, it’s official - I start my master’s degree this fall. To refresh your memory, I applied to Regent University for the Master of Arts program in Organizational Leadership. No, I’m not quitting my job and moving to Virginia - they offer this degree completely online, which is nice as I have become accustomed to having a full time job (or at least a full time paycheck). So if all goes to plan I’ll finish my degree and get hooded in August of 2009 in Virginia! Mark your calenders…
